Sharon Kaye founder of Sun Rose Care

Sharon Kaye

Managing Director and Owner

I have been working in care since 1987 - in hospitals, for domiciliary care agencies and as a live-in carer. I also have experience in palliative care and end of life support. During the time I was working in the care arena I saw there could be a more compassionate way to provide support to those needing it in my community.

I told a friend I was thinking of setting up something a little different, a smaller more individual care agency. She told a friend and the very next day the phone rang has not stopped ringing. We are now steadily growing here in Lewes but also across the South East and London. Such is the demand for a more personal touch. 

I practised as a Nutrition Consultant for more than 20 years and can advise on diet and healthy living. I did the Living Well Dying Well training to be a support for those at the end of life and their families. I am now writing a book on all I have learned on Elder Diet and Nutrition. In my spare time I like to hike, travel, read, dance and meet new people.

I have worked within the care industry since 1993 with varying roles, working with the elderly in care homes, domiciliary care and also with people who have complex needs. I am now a Senior Carer with Sun Rose Care. I enjoy the combination of working in the field, keeping connected to my clients and the support staff, as well as working in the office.

I am involved in training our staff and aim to always keep the quality of our care as high as possible. I am a trainer in Moving and Handling of People and am a Risk Assessor.   I have a keen interest in diet and nutrition holding levels 1, 2 & 3 in Food Safety and a certificate in Nutrition for the Elderly.       

I am passionate about being able to make a difference to our client’s lives. Now I have joined Sun Rose I feel I have found my niche, as I strongly share their values and ethos.

I like walking, gardening, swimming, cycling and writing poetry.  I am a member of an amateur dramatic group. I enjoy fundraising for various charities some of which include The Martlets, Race for life, London to Brighton bike ride.

I have 10 years experience in the care field, working as a home care support worker and then joining Sun Rose Care and moving into admin work in the office.

After completing an accredited course in Social Media my role at Sun Rose Care has now developed into monitoring and maintaining our social media presence as well as making sure our website is up to scratch and designing marketing material. I also monitor staff training and help organise in-house training events.

I also work part-time running sessions in a charity run day centre for adults with learning disabilities. I have always been passionate about helping others and supporting them to achieve their goals and I completed an evening course in counselling and listening skills to help me do this.

I have a BA in the arts and have always had creative interests and hobbies which I am working towards developing. I love to travel and explore the world and also hold strong importance in a healthy lifestyle; eating well and keeping active.

I very much enjoy my work with Sun Rose Care, a company whose compassionate and person-centred approach to care is one which resonates with me. My role here is varied and I never know what each day may bring. I work mainly in HR support, making sure all staff remain compliant and up to date with their paperwork. 

I’ve had a long and diverse career with a background in photography, the arts and education. I worked at a small Buddhist primary school for 20 years in a variety of roles from TA, teaching art to different ages, then finally becoming part of the Senior Management Team. I have experience in Safer Recruitment, Health & Safety as well as marketing and fundraising. 

I am also qualified as a complimentary therapist and trained with Living Well, Dying Well and in several mindfulness programmes. I volunteer at a local hospice and run mindfulness workshops for children and parents, enjoying passing on my own understanding and experiences of mindfulness to others. This is something I would love to develop and share with the Sun Rose team.

We are soon to become CQC registered for the daily domiciliary side of our work which will go hand in hand with gaining new clients and staff,  so it’s an exciting time for the Sun Rose team as we expand across the South. 

I have 14 professional years in the industry starting as out as a home support worker for the Alzheimer’s Society, working my way up to Deputy then CQC Registered Manager.  

I am also a qualified safeguarding enquiry officer and have run safeguarding enquiries for Brighton and Hove City Council. I led two Domiciliary Care services to a CQC rating of good overall on both occasions.  

I am interested in health and fitness. I do a lot of running and ran 2 half marathons for various charities. I organized Memory Walks for the Alzheimer’s Society, also a charity obstacle race. I love music and have spent quite a lot time writing and producing for various artists.
